What the rules require on GHG
Under certification scheme rules, biofuels must achieve a minimum GHG saving against the fossil fuel comparator. The threshold increases over time and varies by installation vintage. Compliance requires per-lot tracking, not portfolio averaging.
- A default GHG value can only be used for feedstocks that qualify under the default pathway; actual values require methodology-compliant calculation.
- The blending of a low-GHG lot with a high-GHG lot does not produce a blended certificate; each lot retains its own value.
- GHG savings must appear on every Proof of Sustainability issued for that lot.
- The minimum threshold increases to 65% for installations commissioned after 2021, and 80% after 2026.
